Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Reguengos de Monsaraz is from April to June and from September to October, when temperatures are mild and ideal for walking through the town and exploring nearby villages. Summer is hot, as expected in the Alentejo, but still suitable for early‑morning or late‑afternoon sightseeing. Winter is quieter and cooler, offering a peaceful experience and good conditions for wine tourism.
Getting Around
Reguengos de Monsaraz is easy to explore on foot, especially the central area around the main square and the church. For visiting Monsaraz, the Alqueva region, or wine estates such as Herdade do Esporão, having a car is the most practical option. Visiting Reguengos de Monsaraz
Land of Wine
Land that sells great part of the wine in Portuguese market (most of it bought in other regions according to the detractors) Reguengos de Monsaraz was, for us, only a mandatory passage in the way to Monsaraz.
Until January, when, once more passing we decided to stop.
Only for a few time, in the night, but a stop, anyway.
Main square
It’s nice, this square, encircled by several typical buildings.
In our prior visits we never stopped there, but in New Year eve night we did it at last.
Church
Built in 1887 by the architect that planned Campo Pequeno bullring in Lisbon, this church located in the main square has the romantic look typical of that date.

Personal MemoriesNight fire
Many Portuguese villages have the tradition of partying around a big fire in a holly day’s eve (in Turquel, my home town, is June 12), but I never saw such a big fire as in Reguengos de Monsaraz.
For sure, it was fired in New Year’s eve, but we were there 24 hours later, and it was still burning and promising to last for long.
Party was over , and only a few curious stand watching the fire.
