Castle of Avis

The castle was built in the 13th century and played an important role in the defense of the region during the Middle Ages.
The castle is situated on a hilltop overlooking the town and the surrounding countryside. It consists of a large keep, a fortified wall, and several towers, including a square tower known as the “Tower of the Five Shields.”
Dam

The Maranhão dam is located a short distance from the city, and, although installed on a river with little flow, it manages to retain a reasonable extension of water. In an interior municipality, this is an appreciable resource that greatly enhances the landscape.
Beach

Taking advantage of the Maranhão dam, on the outskirts of the village there is a nautical club, and a small, well-appointed river beach.
