Once in Castelo Mendo
… and then, as planned, we arrived to the village.
No crowds, no rushes, no hassles, just the authentic old Portugal.
And, for a while, we felt good…
This is one of the historic villages of Portugal, near Coa river, and we may see its castle, the Domus Municipalis, two churches, and the highest pillory of the district.
A curiosity of the castle is the presence at the so-called village door of two pre-Roman representations of wild boars, whose tusks had been cut off to frighten the horses that passed by.
