In the southern edge of the district, Bussaco is an excellent place to spend a few (or many) very relaxing days.
Its proximity to Luso offers good alternatives in lodging, and in Mealhada, the most celebrated suckling pig.
A fabulous forest, hiding a marvelous hotel only for the chosen, Luso and Curia spas at short distance, and the suckling pig of Mealhada (don’t you dare the crime of thinking that it may not be the best in the world!).
What else do you need to understand that, travelling along Portugal, this is an absolute must see?
The park of Bussaco is one of the top attractions in the centre of Portugal.
Very well conceived and maintained, showing a rich selection of exotic plants, it is a relaxing destination to thousands of visitors, and a mandatory visit to those who stay near it, in the thermal stations of Luso or Curia.
Its marked trekking circuits are easy and comfortable.
Bussaco Hotel – Great Style
A marvelous palace in a fabulous park, what else do you need? A good service? Obviously, you have it!
Of course it’s expensive by Portuguese standards, but if you consider that it is one the most beautiful 5 stars in the world, with a remarkable gastronomy, why not to pay the equivalent to many 3 stars in Europe or America for a special night?
Address: Mata do Bussaco, , BUSSACO 3050-261

Just to see the palace from the inside is worth paying the high price of the overnight stay. With 5-star service, the quality is as expected, although here and there it is difficult to overcome the limitations of an old property, especially in terms of electricity.
The excellent breakfast was somewhat hampered by Covid’s restrictions, forcing us to order one by one all the items from the buffet, which the employees brought to the table.
