True Alentejo

Famous by their special tapestry, Arraiolos is a small city where I passed a dozen times without stopping.

This time I took a day to GO THERE and visit the place. It was embellished to the event “Tapetes na rua” (tapestry in the streets), but the true image of Alentejo was honestly present everywhere. It was a nice day, that I will describe in its page.

Évora

Évora

Peace and harmony are present in each square, in each street, in each corner of Évora.

Each stone or building have a particular story, and, in the heat of Alentejo, the calm of the white houses joins each steps from a monument to the next one.

Not to miss. You may visit in a day trip from Lisbon, or with time, and this is the best option to catch the feelings and rhythms of Alentejo.

Mourão

I’ve been in Mourão twice, both times… to eat.

In this second time I demanded a few minutes to look around, and caught a general idea of the city.

That’s all, until the third visit – difficult, because this is a remote city in Evora district, far from the common paths.

Maybe to eat!

Monsaraz

Monsaraz

Monsaraz is a typical Alentejo village, located on the top of a hill, is an excellent point of observation of the past, inscribed in its old houses, and the future, which spreads across the waters of the Alqueva. The visit requires a small detour from the main itineraries, but it is worth it.

Vila Viçosa

A royal refuge in times of crisis, and a country home for royal hunts, Vila Viçosa grew up around the palace, with the castle standing watch nearby. A pleasant visit that doesn’t require much time.

Borba

Borba

Borba is a small city, the seat of a sparsely populated municipality, in the sparsely populated Évora district. With a rich historical heritage, it has an intense activity in all the dominant areas in the region – marble, olive oil, wines and dairy products.
