Historic center
The town has a rich historical heritage, and its historic center is a designated national monument. It’s nice to explore the narrow streets, admiring the old houses and landmarks such as the 16th-century Misericórdia Church and the Baroque-style Paços do Concelho (Town Hall).
São Paio church
Located just across the river, the São Paio Church is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture. It dates back to the 13th century and features a simple and elegant design typical of the period. The exterior of the church is characterized by solid stone walls and a bell tower.
Arcos de Valdevez tournament
In the first half of the 12th century, an independent Portugal was born, with what would become the first king in confrontation with his cousin, Emperor Alfonso VII of León and Castile (kingdoms that would become the origin of Spain).
When the armies positioned themselves in this place for battle, some skirmishes between nobles convinced the Castilian king of the support that his cousin enjoyed and he avoided the fight, recognizing his authority.
In a garden by the river, a modern sculptural set recalls the event.
Vez river
The river that runs through the city is an attraction in itself.
Well-maintained shores (including an artificial beach) and landscaped gardens, take advantage of and reinforce the reflections of the calm and crystalline waters, creating angles and nooks of indisputable beauty.

Long lines at the entrance, evidenced the importance of this restaurant of Arcos de Valdevez in the “take away” segment.
The dinning room was somewhat hidden in the back, with a regular space.
Grill dominates the menu, and the doses were as big as expected in the north of Portugal.
We had a good meal, served with efficiency despite the full house, and the price was moderated, leaving a very positive impression.
