A surprise
Many times I went to Ourém without daring to go up to the castle. About 40 years ago I went, and didn’t like it. I recently decided to go back there, and the surprise was extremely pleasant.
Tourism works miracles, and the entire space has been recovered and beautified, and today it is a visit that is recommended.
Castle
Coming from the founding period of Portugal, this castle is, by many, considered the most beautiful in Portugal.
Well… I won’t say that much, but it’s beautiful, and the well-visible restoration works promise to improve it even more.
Church
The 1755 earthquake destroyed the Collegiate Church of Ourém, which was rebuilt in the Pombaline style between 1758 and 1770.
It is currently classified as a Property of Public Interest, housing the tomb of Count D. Afonso, Marquis of Valença.
Sights
If visiting the castle is a pleasure that justifies the difficulties of the arduous climb, the look around, with views as far as the eye can see, is impressive.
Well kept corners
