The castle is the main attraction of the town, dating back to the 9th century. The castle offers a great view of the Mondego River and the surrounding landscape, with its wide rice fields,. Inside the castle walls, you’ll find a small museum with exhibits related to the castle’s history.
Montemor-o-Velho is also known for its rice paddies, which cover a large area producing high quality rice.
Without surprise, rice is king in the local gastronomy ,from the Arroz de Lampreia, to Arroz Doce, passing by Arroz de Pato.
