Considered the oldest of the known pyramids, the pyramid of Djoser is the only one in steps and is a milestone in architectural evolution.​ The complex is wide and reasonably preserved, though impossible to understand without the inevitable guide’s explanation. In our trip to Sakkara and at a short distance from the pyramid, we had the chance to visit also the mastaba of Irukaptah, which shows a more modest but also interesting burial architecture.
