A car is useful only for exploring the wider Algarve. Movement here reflects simplicity, maritime charm and relaxed coastal living.

Duas vezes na cidade
My first trip to Olhão wasn’t memorable because, on the way out, I was hit by a car that had gone off the road, fortunately with only serious mechanical consequences.
The second visit was much more pleasant: settled on holiday on Faro Island, I discovered that traveling the few kilometers between the two cities was worthwhile, because the price difference between the two markets was enormous.
(I should add that discovering that a friend’s mother had a fish stall there, which she wouldn’t let us pay, greatly amplified those advantages).
