Monastery of Covadonga
Isolated in the mountains, more than a village, Covadonga is a historical memory, marked as a point of religious pilgrimage.
Standing out visually from a distance, the basilica is an imposing neo-Romanesque building, housing some artistic treasures.
Cave
More important from a historical point of view is the nearby cave, a legendary place of worship, whose use is attributed to King Pelayo, who, in the 8th century, began the reaction to the Muslim advance in the Iberian Peninsula.
The view of the cave is particularly impressive from the outside, as the opening at the end of the cave appears almost like a balcony over a waterfall.
Park
Nature dominates the area, and is evidenced in a careful park, where the uneven terrain is used to create volumes and environments.
Covadonga Museum
The whole of the sanctuary is completed with a museum, which we didn’t visit, as the time to take the bus to the lakes was approaching.
