Highlights in Abrantes
The castle is the biggest monument, and the views are spectacular. In town, some churches are worth visiting. Nearby, Tejo and Zêzere Rivers have lots of attractions, and the remote village of Água Formosa is a small and nice spot.
Visiting Abrantes
I lost count of the dozens of times I was in Abrantes under the pretext of roller hockey, and the many others I spent there, with other destinations, always without visiting the city.
This time I actually decided to dedicate a few minutes to it, and I liked it!
The castle
After dozens of visits without seeing the city (the objective was to play roller skating at night), and so many passages with other destinations, I finally decided to dedicate a few minutes to the city.
Confirming that it does not have major tourist attractions, the castle was, however, a pleasant surprise, given the good taste of the surrounding garden and the spectacular views. It’s worth stopping.
Garden
Excellent treatment given to the castle area. An extensive, well-landscaped area allows for a pleasant and cool walk, until, at its end, we are treated to a spectacular view over the Tagus and the surrounding fields, where the Pego power station emerges as a discordant note.
