Strong connection to the Muslim times, well present in the castle of Silves.
In these pages we plan to collect the travelling experiences by the users of Touristrips, and useful information about this place.
A city that came to be called Baghdad of the West, was the last to be recovered by Christians, already in the 13th century.
Perhaps for this reason, it is the Algarve city where the traces of the Muslim occupation have lasted the longest. Just a few kilometres from Portimão, connected by a river that once was and they are trying to make navigable again without tidal limitations, it is an interesting visit for a change from the general Algarve beach and night program.
Highlights in Silves:
The castle, the archaeology museum, the cathedral and “Quinta do Frances”.
