Faro, the capital of the Algarve, while not being one of the most interesting tourist destinations, ends up registering a permanent influx of visitors, as a result of the greater concentration of commercial activities, and the proximity of the international airport.

The city has a well-preserved historic core, close to the busy port.

The beach is located on a long, narrow sandy island, separated from the city by the Ria Formosa, which is accessible by boat or a short bridge.
