Cacela Velha

Cacela Velha

Cacela was a seaside village, half way from Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, living off fishing and the canning industry. As these activities lost weight, the village was reduced with many people doing in the agricultural fields next to the train station.

Vila Nova de Cacela was born, while Cacela Velha faded away, leaving its traditional characteristics intact.

It is this purity that makes the charm of tourists who visit it more and more.

Highlights in Cacela Velha:

The authenticity of the village, the views from the fort, the beach and, as tourism takes over, some cultural events to look out for in the local calendar.
