Pythagorio is a beautiful and picturesque town surrounding the port that, having been constructed during the reign of Polikrates, is said to be the oldest man made port of the Mediterranean.

The traces of this old port are not visible, but the many boats lined up on the pier are a good example of the quality of protection and support provided by the bay.

Highlights in Pythagorio:

Close to the city is Heraion de Samos, ruins declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, but walking around the port is very pleasant.
