Rio Lagartos is a small fishing village in northern Yucatan, near Valladolid. The city is the gateway to a wildlife reserve with the same name.
Off the main tourist routes, this is a fabulous place where wildlife can find peace and quiet. This semi-enclosed body of water, mixing sea salt with fresh land water, is covered by mangroves and is home to many animal species from birds to fish, especially flamingos.
How to go to Rio Lagartos Park:
It’s easy to rent a boat in the village and discover the best of nature.
