Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982, Olinda is a gem.
Just a few kilometers from progressive Recife, and despite some destruction by the Dutch attacks, it managed to preserve its colonial layout, and an immense number of magnificent baroque churches.
Highlights in Olinda:
The whole city is an open museum of colonial times, where the monasteries of São Francisco and São Bento and the Igreja do Carmo stand out.
