A historic city, where remains of the Portuguese passage survive, after asserting itself as the largest sardine fishing port in the world, it is today the main export port for Moroccan phosphates.

Although visited mainly by tourists in transit to or from Essaouira, tourism is not exactly the city’s strong point.
